In 1959, Robert & Marilyn Butler purchased their first registered Holstein, "Rag Apple Atbith Ruthie" from John M. Friedman of Chatsworth, IL. Since 1960 when we began registering Holsteins, we have registered nearly 1,300 cattle under the prefix "Bluff-Ridge". Our prefix was formed from family initials and the "ff" in dedication to Frank Foulk, our former landlord who gave us a big lift into the dairy business by remodeling his barn for Grade A milk. We've sold over 200 animals for dairy, bred more than 80 Excellents and over 150 Very Goods. We began classifying in 1964 with an average score of 79.5. Since that humble beginning, our latest BAA has improved to 110.8. We've bred numerous GMDs and DOMs plus the 1989 All-American Produce. Numerous offspring of these animals make up most of our herd today.
David Butler, son of Robert & Marilyn, currently runs the farm along with his wife Karen, their daughters Sarah Butler, Christie O'Connor, & Jackie Jansen, and a great team of individuals who help care for the animals and the land. They care for roughly 90 Registered Holsteins altogether, milking around 50 cows.
